Since completing her business administration 学徒 with 可大学, 冬青史蒂文森, 20岁, has landed a permanent job at the Institute of Chartered Accountants. Discover why an 学徒 was the best choice to kickstart her career.

冬青的故事

“自从六年级毕业后, 我意识到我更像一个实际的学习者, 我也知道我非常专注于事业. It therefore just made sense to me that I begin my career journey by undertaking an 学徒 so that I could build my people and business skills quickly and gain the confidence in my field to apply for roles in the future.

我学的是工商管理 学徒 with Milton Keynes College whilst working my placement at the Institute of Chartered Accountants. I applied to work here initially because the company was reputable and they offered a lot of opportunities for progression, as well as the possibility of landing a full-time job after the completion of my course.

Being fortunate enough to become an apprentice for ICAEW, where I worked in the field of accountancy and marketing, it proved extremely beneficial in building up my skills and knowledge, and I would not have been able to gain these skills and knowledge from coursework alone. 我能够理解业务流程, in turn helping me to master a range of skills needed to use the required software, as well as have my confidence boosted when working with a broad number of different people.

在我的学徒生涯中, I was fully supported by my contacts from Milton Keynes College. They were always there if I ever needed someone to reach out to, and it was great to have regular communication set in place, 包括我的直线经理对我的进展的更新. I would highly recommend an 学徒 route to anyone who is not interested in university, or similarly for those who are uncertain about spending 3 or 4 more years in education.”

Holly’s most important pieces of advice for new apprentices would be:

  1. Keep organised from the offset, balancing your assignments and your company’s work.
  2. Do not feel like you are just ‘an apprentice’ – you are so valued in your business and team!
  3. Do not be afraid to ask for help and more support if necessary. Your colleagues and manager have good knowledge of some of the work you will be set by your employer, 所以要充分利用他们的专业知识.
  4. 充分利用所有的工作机会. You can take all this extra experience with you and it will look impressive on your CV for future employers.
